Everest Orphanage Association

About Us

Everest Orphanage Association (EOA) was founded in 2018 by Derrick Ssembusi, who was just 18 years old at the time. With no money, no land, and no formal plan, he was deeply moved by the situation of vulnerable children in Masaka—many of whom were sleeping hungry, walking barefoot, and growing up without parental care.

In faith and compassion, he opened his door to the first child. That one act of kindness quickly grew into a mission. One child became two, two became ten, and today, by the grace of God, more than 68 children call Everest home.

EOA is officially registered as a Community Based Organisation (CBO) with Masaka City on in 2021 (CD No. MC/NM/6074/2021), strengthening its commitment to serving vulnerable children in a structured and recognized way.

  • Everest Orphanage is more than a shelter—it is a Christ-centered family. Jesus Christ is the foundation of our home. We begin each day in prayer, guide children with love, practice forgiveness, and live with hope. Here, children are not treated as cases or numbers; they are sons and daughters in a family.
  • We live together as brothers and sisters, sharing meals from the same pot, studying together, praying together, crying together, and dreaming together. The youngest child calls the oldest “brother,” and the children call our founder “Dad.”
  • From humble beginnings, Everest has grown into a home built on love, faith, and compassion—where every child is given a chance to heal, grow, and build a brighter future.
